SBQMI's reputation for research excellence has enabled it to establish high-profile partnerships with leading research institutes around the world.

The Max Planck Society of Germany chose to establish its international centre in quantum materials at SBQMI, creating the Max Planck-UBC Centre for Quantum Materials in 2012. This collaboration between SBQMI and the Max Planck Society is only the third such centre to be established outside Germany. We have further extended our reach with our partnership with Tokyo University and ongoing collaborations with TRIUMF, Canadian Light Source and other world leading institutions.

With the addition of its Director of Business Development, SBQMI is now reaching out to identify and establish industry partnerships that will build on scientific discoveries, identifying and developing promising applications in medical devices, quantum computing, clean energy, and materials manufacturing.

The research and activities of the GREx Secretariat and SBQMI are undertaken thanks in part to funding from the Canada First Research Excellence Fund.
